The First Tee – Silicon Valley Philosophy

Author Jim Stovall once said “you need to be aware of what others are doing, applaud their efforts, acknowledge their successes, and encourage them in their pursuits. When we all help one another, everybody wins.”

First Tee – Silicon Valley’s coaching philosophy aims to put those words into practice. Our team of coaches work together to set an inclusive and supportive environment. Our games foster teamwork and collaboration, and our participants are encouraged to build positive relationships with peers. Golf on its own is an individual sport, but through our group classes, coaches, and lesson plans we help participants feel part of a team and learn effective communication skills. In our most recent survey, 92% of participants said they felt part of a team and 87% said they have friends in the class.

Making friends and feeling part of the group relies on the ability to collaborate. To that point, Collaborating with Others is one of the Life Skills in our Life Skill curriculum. Depending on their Grade Group, participants apply this skill through sportsmanship, active listening, appreciating diversity, and open-ended questions.

This spring we look forward to having another fun season of games and activities that help participants build character and bolster their teamwork skills. When we work together, we can accomplish so much and get much more enjoyment out of the process.
