(FTSV – MHUSD School Outreach Program Training – Published 10/24/25) On Thursday, October 9th, 2025, FTSV hosted 8 after-school YMCA program leaders from the Morgan Hill School District (MHUSD) for a district-wide training on our School Program. The trainings help prepare our partners to deliver our School Program curriculum at their after-school facilities.
Who are the MHUSD schools?
We are proud to announce the addition of four MHUSD schools -Paradise Valley, Los Paseos, Jackson, and Nordstrom – to join El Toro, Barrett, San Martin Gwinn, and P.A. Walsh as our 2025-26 School Program partners.
This show of force by MHUSD is a testament to the commitment they have to their students and families.
What will the School Program provide?
Throughout the school year, afterschool program leaders from YMCA will deliver up to 8 of our lesson plans to their MHUSD students, teaching them about core values of Respect, Sportsmanship, Confidence, Integrity, Goal setting, and Perseverance, as well as golf skills that will help them develop a proper hold, stance, and swing.
Additionally, each school will have the opportunity to attend a field trip to Gavilan Golf Course where students will be able to experience golf using real golf equipment and golf balls on the driving range and putting green. Given its proximity, Gavilan Golf Course is the hub for our South County area within the First Tee of Silicon Valley. We hope the field trips help show these students that this golf course is a great community space for them and their families to interact and enjoy the game together.
Why is the School Program Important?
Each academic year, schools from as far south as Gilroy to as far north as Redwood City, deliver our School Program and curriculum to their students. These partnerships are vital to achieving our mission of serving our community, especially those in low-income areas and Title 1 schools. Because of the School Program, more kids are exposed to the game of golf and our life skill curriculum. Last year alone, roughly 3,000 students participated in our School Program.
Our School Partners are equipped with the equipment, lesson plans, and training needed to coach our core life and golf skills to their students, using adaptive lesson plans that make golf fun and accessible to kids no matter of their age or skill level.
Thank you MHUSD and all the program leaders who attended our training at YMCA Barrett. We are excited for another great school year, and we can’t wait to see you and your students at the golf course!
